An indoor stick for a child – how to choose the length and how the junior models in our range differ

Four indoor sticks: Ritual Precision 10 Indoor Jr, Grays DB1Xi Dynabow Junior, TK W2 LB Indoor and Gryphon Taboo XLB Indoor Wood

Ahead of the indoor season, we compare two junior models and three longer sticks from selected product pages. The figures in this comparison come from the shop's range as of October 2026; check the product page for current sizes, colours and available lengths. All the specifications come from the product pages in our shop. We covered the differences between an indoor stick and an outdoor stick separately in the post on the indoor stick and how to choose one, so here we focus on the child.

Length: where the choice starts

Stick length is given in inches. In the supplied data, the two junior models compared here come in 34 or 35 inches, while the three longer models in this comparison come in 36.5 and 37.5 inches. The difference between 35 and 36.5 inches is 1.5 inches.

We do not give a height chart here, because the choice depends on the child, their stance and their grip. How to measure, and the sizes for children and adults, we described in the post on choosing stick length. Two practical points with indoor hockey in mind:

  • Indoors the ball is carried right next to the floor. A stick that is too long can make it harder to get low, and one that is too short can force excessive bending.
  • A stick bought “to grow into” may only become comfortable after some time. If the child is between sizes, it is worth comparing both lengths in hand, in the playing position.

Weight: what we do not compare

The product pages for the five sticks described in this post do not give a weight in grams, so we do not compare them on that point. The description of the Ritual Precision 10 Indoor Jr only says that it is shorter and lighter than the senior model. If weight matters to you, check the manufacturer’s specification for the model or ask us before you buy.

Two indoor sticks in junior lengths

Ritual Precision 10 Indoor Jr. One length: 35 inches. Ultra-low bow with a depth of 24 mm, low carbon content (entry level), described as intended for beginners and juniors. According to the description, the low carbon content is forgiving of mistakes while learning to carry and receive the ball. It is the junior version of the Ritual Precision 10 Indoor, so after outgrowing 35 inches you can stay with the same profile in 36.5 or 37.5 inches.

Grays DB1Xi Dynabow Junior. Two lengths: 34 and 35 inches. A composite indoor stick from the Xi generation, with the Dynabow profile, which the manufacturer describes as all-round, and a small (micro) head. According to the description, the small head supports dribbling and quick changes of direction. The product page for this model does not give the carbon content or the bow depth. Our range also includes the senior Grays DB1Xi Dynabow in 36.5 and 37.5 inches.

The practical difference between them: Grays offers a choice between 34 and 35 inches, Ritual comes only in 35. If 35 inches turns out to be too long for the child, of these two models that leaves the Grays in 34 inches.

Next step: indoor sticks from 36.5 inches

If a 36.5-inch stick fits your child after trying it, compare the following three models too.

  • Ritual Precision 10 Indoor – 36.5 and 37.5 inches, the same profile as the Jr version: ultra-low bow with a depth of 24 mm and low carbon content, beginner level.
  • Gryphon Taboo XLB Indoor Wood G26 – 36.5 and 37.5 inches, wood, XLB (Extra Low Bow) profile. In the description: a stick for a first indoor season and for club training, for children, teenagers and adults.
  • TK W2 LB Indoor – 36.5 and 37.5 inches, 100% mulberry wood reinforced with aramid and glass fibre, no carbon. Late Bow profile: a bow 24 mm deep at 220 mm, balance point 380 mm.

These three models differ in material and bow profile. None of them is a junior version, so the first question is whether 36.5 inches suits the child.

How to choose between them

  • The child is starting indoors and 35 inches fits: both junior sticks are an option. With the Ritual you know the composition and bow depth from the product page; with the Grays you get two lengths and a small head.
  • 34 inches fits: of the two junior models compared here, the Grays DB1Xi Dynabow Junior comes in this length.
  • 36.5 inches fits: one of the three models in the list above. If the child played with the Ritual Precision 10 Indoor Jr, the senior version has the same bow profile.
  • This is a first stick altogether, not just an indoor one: also take a look at the guide to choosing a first stick.

Before buying, check on the product page which lengths are available at the moment, because stock of variants can change. You will find the models from this round-up among other sticks in the category indoor and junior sticks in our shop.
