The weekend of 3–4 October in Polish hockey – Superliga, I liga and junior results
The autumn outdoor season is in full swing. Over the weekend of 3–4 October the men's Superliga and I liga teams were in action, alongside the girls' and boys' junior sides and the women's senior teams. We have gathered the results in one place so that supporters and players' parents who spent Saturday and Sunday in the stands or on the road to a match can quickly check how everyone else got on. All results come from the summary published by the Polish Field Hockey Association (PZHT). We give the scores only, without scorers or line-ups, because the association's report does not include them and we do not want to add anything of our own. If you are only just getting to know how the competitions in Poland are organised, we described the structure of the leagues and clubs in our post on hockey in Poland.
Superliga: four matches, three decided by a single goal
Four matches were played in the men's top division:
- LKS Gąsawa – AZS Politechnika Poznańska 2:1
- KS Stella Gniezno – ENEA AZS AWF Poznań 3:4
- ABEX Rekreacja HKS Siemianowiczanka – WKS Grunwald Poznań 8:1
- HK Pomorzanin Toruń – KS Warta Poznań 3:2
Three of the four matches were decided by a single goal. LKS Gąsawa beat AZS Politechnika Poznańska 2:1, HK Pomorzanin Toruń beat KS Warta Poznań 3:2, and in the KS Stella Gniezno – ENEA AZS AWF Poznań game seven goals produced a 3:4 result in favour of the side from Poznań. The fourth match looked completely different: ABEX Rekreacja HKS Siemianowiczanka beat WKS Grunwald Poznań 8:1. One team also scored eight goals in the I liga, where another match finished 8:1. In total 24 goals were scored in the four Superliga matches, nine of them in that one game.
I liga: five matches
| Match | Result |
|---|---|
| HK Pomorzanin Toruń II – KS Polonia Skierniewice | 2:5 |

| LKS Rogowo – UKH Start 1954 Gniezno | 3:1 |

Junior competitions and senior women's hockey
The weekend also belonged to the juniors and the women's senior teams. The results, in the order given by PZHT:
Girls' juniors
- KS Hokej Start Brzeziny – UKS SP5 Swarzędz 1:3

Two junior matches ended level after regulation time and were settled by a shoot-out. The girls of UKS Orient II Łozina and LKS Gąsawa did not score from open play, and Gąsawa won the shoot-out 5:4. In the boys' game UKS SP5 Swarek Swarzędz and KS AZS AWF Poznań shared ten goals, after which Swarzędz won the shoot-out 4:2. In the other boys' matches UKH Start 1954 Gniezno beat LKS Rogowo 6:3 and KS Warta Poznań beat KS Stella Gniezno 5:2. The girls of UKS SP5 Swarzędz beat KS Hokej Start Brzeziny 3:1. We described the shoot-out procedure – who takes the attempts, how much time they have and what the goalkeeper is allowed to do – in our post on the shoot-out.
A curiosity from the women's competitions: KS Hokej Start Brzeziny played a team from Swarzędz twice, once at girls' junior level and once in the seniors, and both matches finished 1:3 to Swarzędz. In the seniors AZS Politechnika Poznańska beat its own second team 3:1.
What comes next
The autumn round continues, with more weekends of Superliga and I liga matches and junior tournaments ahead. The current fixture list, tables and live scores are published on the website of the Polish Field Hockey Association. It is worth checking match times and venues there as you go, because they do get moved, especially in the junior categories, where several matches are played on one day at one venue. For parents of players in the younger age groups it is also a good place to see who their child will be playing in the coming weeks.
One practical note for supporters heading to an outdoor match in October: the weather in the stands is already different from September, and junior tournaments often run from morning until the afternoon. A warmer layer, a flask and something to sit on come in handy more often than it seems when you leave the house.
After a weekend of matches it is also worth looking over the stick: the head for chips and cracks, the edge you stop the ball with, and the condition of the grip. We described how to do such a check in our post on stick care and storage. If it turns out that it is time for a change, you will find outdoor sticks for children and adults in the category sticks.
