A stick that is too expensive, too stiff or too long can put you off the sport before it even begins. Here is how to choose wisely.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start with length, not the brand<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stand the stick upright next to your leg \u2014 the top should reach roughly your hip bone. For children that usually means 26\u201332 inches, for adults 36.5\u201337.5. Do not buy a stick \u201cto grow into\u201d: one too long forces bad posture and makes learning ball control harder. The best first stick is wooden or composite with up to 30% carbon \u2014 softer, with better ball feel and noticeably cheaper.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bow: start with standard<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Low bow and extra low profiles seen among competitive players are built for drag flicks and 3D play \u2014 for a beginner they make flat passing harder. Choose a standard or mid bow (~22 mm): predictable in reception and passing, which is what you learn first.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Midi head \u2014 the golden mean<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Midi<\/strong> \u2014 universal, the easiest to learn receiving with \u2014 this is the one you want<\/li><li><strong>Maxi<\/strong> \u2014 a larger surface, a frequent choice of defenders<\/li><li><strong>Shorti<\/strong> \u2014 for advanced dribblers, too demanding at the start<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much should a first stick cost?<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A sensible first stick costs around PLN 150\u2013350.
